A Heartfelt Gratitude!

We express our heartfelt appreciation to our amazing donors, whose ongoing support fuels our mission to relieving hunger. Your consistent generosity is the foundation of our success, and we are truly grateful for it. Please take a moment to recognize the significant impact you've had over the past month. 
Food Hampers
In April, we distributed 608 food hampers containing vital food supplies to assist individuals facing food insecurity.

These hampers reached a varied demographic of 1,181 people, including 194 seniors, 61 single parents and 385 children within our community.
Emergency Hamper
Our emergency food hamper service provides food assistance to individuals and families who have already received their monthly hamper but are in need of further support.

Last month, your unwavering kindness resulted in 163 emergency hampers being distributed, reflecting a decrease compared to the 191 provided the previous month.
First Time Visits
In April, we provided assistance to 48 individuals and families who were new to food bank services.

It's heartbreaking to see that we still have people turning to our food bank for the first time in their life..

Children Served
In April 2024, our efforts reached 385 children in need, reflecting an increase of 3.4% compared to the 372 children we supported in March 2024.

This highlights the growing reliance on our support, particularly among children in our community. 
Unprecedented Surge in Demand
On April 25th, our food bank experienced an unprecedented increase in demand, with 172 individuals, including children and seniors, seeking assistance. In response to this urgent need, we provided a remarkable 69 full hampers including 14 emergency hampers. Thanks to your continued support, we can swiftly address such critical situations, ensuring that nobody in our community faces hunger.
Loaves of Bread Baked in Our Kitchen
Last month, we baked more than 340 loaves of bread in our kitchen to feed our neighbours in the city, part of our ongoing effort as we make bread every week to ensure everyone has access to food.
Goulash & Soup Prepared
In our community kitchen, we whipped up 320 meals of Goulash and 280 bowls of chicken soup, maintaining our commitment to providing healthy meals to those we serve.
 
Thank You, Volunteers: 34 Years of Dedication
Reflecting on Volunteer Week, observed from April 14th to April 20th, we extend heartfelt appreciation to the all the dedicated volunteers who have been the backbone of our Food Aid Centre for these 34 years.

Your steadfast commitment to our community, demonstrated through tasks like sorting food items, portioning, stocking shelves, distributing essentials, baking bread and preparing meals like goulash and soup, has made an enduring impact. Your selflessness is what helps us continue this mission to relieving hunger, and we are profoundly grateful for your unwavering support.
As we continue our mission, we honor and celebrate each of you for your invaluable service and commitment to making a difference.
 
News: Moves Beyond The Pantry
Food Banks Canada Visits Bridges To Hope
 
We were honored to welcome Kirstin Beardsley, CEO of Food Banks Canada, Chantal Senecal, Director of National Programs, and Tina Bishop, General Manager of Community Food Sharing Association, to Bridges to Hope on the 24th April, 2024

Their visit provided an invaluable opportunity to discuss about the challenges our clients face, their growing needs and the pressing issue of food insecurity in Newfoundland.
Together with our Chairman, Ewan Cumming and dedicated staff, we had a meaningful conversation about the needs of our community, priorities we are focusing on, and how we can work together to address them.

We are deeply grateful for the incredible support from Costco Wholesale Canada, Warehouse Store in St. John's NL.

They presented us with a generous $5000 donation to help us in our mission to relieve hunger in our community. Their support means so much to us and will make a real difference in the lives of those we serve.
Neptune Lodge No. 22 Continues its Support
A Heartfelt thank you to Neptune Lodge 22 for their generous donation of $500!

They also lent a helping hand back in December 2023, as some of their members volunteered alongside us, aiding in the preparation of food hampers in our pantry. Their dedication to giving back is truly inspiring.
Bread Buddy Fundraiser by Christine
Christine is a Consultant at Pampered Chef. She has been diligently hosting a fundraiser for the past three weeks to provide our clients with sufficient bread mixers. Her goal was to secure sponsors for 100 bags, and she made it.

She dropped by Bridges on the 30th last month with these amazing mixes that were sponsored by the generous community in the city. Our deepest gratitude to you, Christine, for your amazing efforts. And the community for rallying behind her fundraiser to make it a success.
